Bert's Play Fort Plans

This is Bert's Fort! This playhouse was designed and built by our friends, Tim and Caitlin, and we’re excited to sell the plans here as a joint venture. We hope that the proceeds will one day help Bert pursue trade school—fingers crossed for HVAC or welding!

This printable PDF plan is for an approachable DIY kids' playhouse optimized for material and cost efficiency. The step-by-step guide is tailored for novice builders, offering multiple methods to complete the build based on your experience and tool access. It also includes links to all the necessary hardware, materials, and windows.

SIZE: 32 square feet. Footprint measuring 4x8 ft. The doorway height is 5’ 3”, with a total height of 7.5 ft.

COST: The approximate cost of materials, excluding optional windows, is about $900 USD. Material choices and local pricing will vary the total build cost.

SKETCHUP: An entry-level 3D design program that allows you to take precise measurements and examine the hidden layers of construction details. Use it to modify the design, or to familiarize yourself with the construction process digitally before building for real. Sketchup is available as an always-free web app, so there is no added cost.
